What we are aiming at

This site is built to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. That is a deliberate target rather than an aspiration, because a lot of the people who need us are reading under stress, at night, on a phone, and are not in their twenties.

What that means in practice

The specific things it changed about how this site is built:

• Nothing on the site is smaller than 16px, including footnotes, form helper text and photo captions.
• Text and background color pairings were contrast checked rather than assumed, and the results are documented in our design system.
• Every interactive element is reachable and operable by keyboard, with a visible focus ring that changes color by surface so it always stands out.
• Every tap target is at least 44 by 44 pixels. The emergency call bar is 68.
• Every photograph carries a written description of what is actually in the frame.
• Accordion answers stay in the page whether they are open or closed, so a screen reader can reach all of them.
• If your device is set to reduce motion, animation is switched off. No content is ever hidden behind an animation, so nothing disappears when it is.
• The site works without JavaScript. Content is rendered on the server, not assembled in your browser.

Where we know we fall short

We would rather say this than claim a clean sheet. This site is new and has not yet been through an independent audit or been tested with a screen reader by somebody who uses one daily. Both are planned. Until they happen, treat this statement as what we built for rather than what has been verified by a third party.

Tell us if something does not work

If any part of this site is hard to use, call or text the number on the site and say what happened and what you were using. That reaches the owner directly, and it is the fastest way to get it fixed.

If you cannot use the site at all, the phone number is the whole service. Nothing here is required in order to hire us.
