What the lakes and the October 2025 flood mean here.
In late October 2025 a single storm dropped more than 19 inches of rain on Eustis and more than 17 inches on Mount Dora, and Lake County declared a state of emergency over the flooding the next day. Water went to the lowest ground, and both towns are built around their lakes.
It was not the first time. Hurricane Milton brought 6 to 11 inches across the county in October 2024, with 285 structures reported affected, and Ian left 7.39 inches at a gauge just east of Mount Dora in 2022.
The housing is older than the county around it. About a third of the homes in both Mount Dora and Eustis were built before 1980, against 22 percent across Lake County as a whole, so original plumbing, older roofs and wood frame are a bigger share of the housing here than in the newer parts of the county.

Sometimes. Growth on a hard surface like tile, glass or metal can be cleaned off. Drywall, carpet pad and insulation that are growing mold have to come out, because the growth is inside the material, not on it. Moisture readings first tell us how far it goes before anything is opened.
